After Week 17 the playoff picture is almost complete on both sides. In the AFC we have a three-team showdown between the Broncos, Bengals, and Dolphins. On the NFC the last playoff spot will be either the Bucs or the Falcons. With both sides materializing let’s take a look at how every team comes in on Blitz Sports Media’s weekly power rankings.

1. Kansas City Chiefs 15-1 (-)

The Chiefs have validated their top ranking with a commanding performance on Christmas Day, showcasing the elite form that has defined their season. Patrick Mahomes delivered a vintage performance, and even without Chris Jones, the defense dominated with five sacks. At 15-1, they’ve proven they can beat anyone in various ways and are peaking at the right time. With their playoff position secure, Kansas City will rest most of their starters against the Broncos.

2. Buffalo Bills 13-3 (-)

The Bills locked up the No. 2 seed with a complete performance, particularly on defense, against the Jets. Despite a dip in Josh Allen’s MVP-caliber season during a rough Week 15, Buffalo demonstrated its resilience with a defensive rebound after tough outings. The Bills are primed for a deep postseason run again but will have a tough road facing either the Broncos or Bengals, then the Ravens likely, and then the Chiefs on the road. They have the talent on offense to do so, let’s see if this defense can get hot at the right time.

3. Detroit Lions 14-2 (-)

The Lions have emerged as an NFC powerhouse despite concerns about their defensive consistency, which was exposed in a lackluster effort against the 49ers. At 14-2, they are a potent offense led by Ben Johnson’s creative play-calling that has been unstoppable in overcoming the struggles on defense. With the top NFC seed on the line, Detroit needs to recapture the turnover-generating prowess that defined their early-season success. If they do, they could enter the playoffs with a major advantage with homefield advantage.

4. Minnesota Vikings 14-2 (-)

The Vikings’ resilience and consistent improvement have finally earned them recognition as an elite team. Sam Darnold has guided Minnesota to a 14-2 record and has an argument as the best quarterback in the NFC. With a showdown against the Lions determining the NFC’s top seed, the Vikings are poised to prove they are the team to beat in the NFC this week. Their balanced attack, featuring Justin Jefferson’s explosiveness and a turnover-averse offense, complements a defense that has steadily tightened up, making them a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

5. Philadelphia Eagles 13-3 (-)

The Eagles remain a well-rounded team with a 13-3 record, despite battling injuries to key players like Jalen Hurts and Kenny Pickett. Nick Sirianni has emphasized team goals over individual accolades, evident in the likely decision to rest Saquon Barkley even as he nears a rushing record. Philadelphia’s defense has been a consistent force, exemplified by their turnover-heavy Week 17 win. With their quarterbacks recovering, the Eagles have the depth and versatility to make a deep playoff run, relying on a defense capable of carrying the load if needed.

6. Baltimore Ravens 11-5 (+1)

Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry, have formulated the most dominant offensive attack in the NFL. Their offense has been electric since the Week 14 bye, consistently scoring over 30 points per game while their defense has shown improvement. Despite occasional issues with penalties and special teams, the Ravens have already beaten potential playoff opponents, instilling confidence. A deep playoff run is within reach if they maintain their current form, as they boast the firepower to compete with any team.

7. Green Bay Packers 11-5 (-1)

The Packers’ 11-5 record masks inconsistencies, especially against NFC contenders like the Lions and Vikings, who have exposed Green Bay’s vulnerabilities. Jordan Love’s development remains the key to their postseason success, as the offense has shown flashes of brilliance but struggled in critical moments. Their path to playoff redemption likely goes through tough road matchups, where they must prove they can rise to the occasion.

8. Los Angeles Rams 10-6 (-)

The Rams have made an impressive comeback from a 1-4 start, earning a division title and playoff berth. While their offense has cooled recently, Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford bring playoff experience and poise making them dangerous. The defense has been impressive over the last three weeks and might be hitting their stride at the right time. The Rams are a dangerous team with a proven track record in high-pressure situations.

9. Washington Commanders 11-5 (+2)

Dan Quinn has orchestrated a remarkable turnaround in Washington, transforming the Commanders into a playoff-bound 11-5 team brimming with confidence. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has been a revelation, supported by a veteran roster and coaching staff. The Commanders’ recent offensive success has allowed them to beat the Kliff Kingsbury second-half allegations. They are ahead of schedule but they are going to give headaches to whoever they face in the first round.

10. Los Angeles Chargers 10-6 (+3)

The Chargers have regained their footing with back-to-back wins, thanks to contributions from Ladd McConkey and the resurgence of Derwin James. At 10-6, Los Angeles has the tools to upset higher-seeded teams, with a balanced offense and a defense capable of making big plays. However, their inconsistency throughout the season raises questions about their ability to sustain success against elite opponents. The playoffs will test whether this talented but unproven squad can rise to the occasion.

11. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 9-7 (+3)

Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans have powered the Bucs’ offense back to life, with Bucky Irving emerging as a dynamic playmaker. While injuries in the secondary are a concern, Tampa Bay’s offensive potential makes them a dangerous playoff team. Their Week 17 win over Carolina was a statement game, but they need to maintain momentum to secure a playoff spot with a win this week.

12. Pittsburgh Steelers 10-6 (-3)

The Steelers’ playoff berth is secure, but their recent struggles against top-tier teams highlight glaring weaknesses. Sloppy execution, such as turnovers in key moments, has derailed their momentum, leaving doubts about their readiness for the postseason. Facing a Bengals team with nothing to lose in Week 18 provides an opportunity to regain confidence. However, Pittsburgh must resolve their offensive inconsistencies and tighten up defensively to avoid another early playoff exit.

13. Denver Broncos 9-7 (-3)

Denver’s playoff hopes hinge on a must-win game against the Chiefs’ backups in Week 18. Rookie QB Bo Nix has shown promise but remains inconsistent, and the team’s lack of aggression in key moments has cost them. The defense is still one of the top units in the NFL but clearly has struggled with their depth in the secondary in the last few weeks. Despite their flaws, the Broncos remain a scrappy team capable of making noise. Whether they make the playoffs or not, their future looks bright under Sean Payton.

14. Cincinnati Bengals 8-8 (+1)

The Bengals have fought valiantly to stay in playoff contention, with Joe Burrow putting up MVP numbers. Despite their efforts, they need help from other teams to secure a postseason berth. Their resilience and determination make them a compelling underdog, but their fate is largely out of their hands. Even if the Bengals do get in, none of the top contenders are worried about their 29th ranked defense.

15. Houston Texans 9-7 (-3)

Injuries and offensive struggles have derailed the Texans’ late-season momentum. C.J. Stroud is in a slump, and the offensive line issues have compounded their problems. Despite these setbacks, they’ve secured a home playoff game and can use Week 18 to rest and regroup. Houston’s playoff success will depend on whether they can rediscover their early-season form.

16. Seattle Seahawks 9-7 (-)

Seattle’s season has been a rollercoaster, with Geno Smith being the key cog in the experience. Their defense dominated Chicago in Week 17 and has proven to be an up-and-coming group under Mike MacDonald. Heading into next season they will need to address Smith’s future with the team.

17. Atlanta Falcons 8-8 (-)

The Falcons‘ playoff hopes hinge on Week 18, needing a win and a Tampa Bay loss. Unfortunately, their midseason collapse after a 6-3 start has left them scrambling. Raheem Morris’ questionable game management, especially in critical moments like Sunday’s overtime loss to the Commanders, has sparked scrutiny. His decision to delay the switch from Kirk Cousins to Michael Penix Jr. and mishandle late-game clock management could haunt Atlanta if they miss the postseason. Despite flashes of potential, the team will need introspection this offseason to build on their early success.

18. Miami Dolphins 8-8 (+1)

lThe Dolphins’ playoff dreams rest on a razor’s edge, with Tua Tagovailoa’s status uncertain. Backup Tyler Huntley filled in admirably, but Tua remains the key to Miami’s offensive rhythm. The run game has struggled all season long with the regression of the offensive line. Defensively they have been an underrated unit this season. If the Dolphins take care of business against the Jets, and the Chiefs beat the Broncos they are in.

19. Arizona Cardinals 7-9 (+1)

Arizona’s loss to the Rams summed up a frustrating season, though Kyler Murray’s performance offered some solace. Trey McBride has been a superstar this season and has provided hope for the future alongside rookie Marvin Harrison Jr. Offensive coordinator Drew Petzing is the problem and the defense will be better next season with more talent.

20. Dallas Cowboys 7-9 (-2)

The Cowboys came into Week 17 as one of the hottest teams in football despite being eliminated from playoff contention. After CeeDee Lamb was shut down, this team looked completely different his week. The Cowboys need reinforcements across the board, especially on the offensive line and in the secondary, to regain competitive footing next season with Mike McCarthy likely at the helm.

21. San Francisco 49ers 6-10 (-)

The 49ers‘ rollercoaster season hit another low with Monday’s loss to the Lions. Ricky Pearsall provided a spark in a standout performance, but Brock Purdy’s two second-half interceptions swung the game. With Purdy now nursing an elbow injury, questions about his long-term role and contract loom large. Despite the setbacks, Kyle Shanahan’s system and emerging talent like Pearsall provide reasons for optimism heading into 2025.

22. Indianapolis Colts 6-9 (-)

The Colts’ playoff pulse faded after a dismal performance against the Giants, who dismantled their defense with ease. The entire Colts organization should have their jobs in question after this game and a stretch of mediocrity since Andrew Luck retired. Anthony Richardson remains the cornerstone for the future, but questions about Shane Steichen’s leadership persist. The offseason will likely bring changes to the coaching staff, but the Colts remain committed to developing Richardson.

23. Carolina Panthers 4-12 (-)

Bryce Young showed resilience despite the Panthers’ blowout loss to Tampa Bay. The young quarterback’s progress provides a glimmer of hope, even as the team struggles with roster gaps and defensive regression. Veteran Adam Thielen has been a stabilizing force, but the Panthers need to prioritize surrounding Young with more talent. The offseason will be pivotal for addressing their defensive issues and continuing Young’s development.

24. Las Vegas Raiders 4-12 (+5)

The Raiders have salvaged pride with a late-season surge, fueled by rookie tight end Brock Bowers’ historic performance. Head coach Antonio Pierce has made his case to stay, but the team’s long-term QB situation remains unsettled. While Aidan O’Connell has shown potential, Las Vegas is likely to explore options for a more established signal-caller. Building around Bowers and addressing defensive needs will shape their offseason.

25. New York Jets 4-12 (-1)

Aaron Rodgers’ forgettable season hit a new low with a record-setting sack tally and a dismal performance against Buffalo. Rodgers’ tenure in New York appears to be a failure, and the Jets face tough decisions at quarterback heading into 2025. Garrett Wilson’s frustration reflects broader dissatisfaction, suggesting the franchise is on the verge of another overhaul. The Jets must prioritize finding stability at QB to avoid another wasted season.

26. Chicago Bears 4-12 (-1)

The Bears’ season spiraled into disappointment despite Caleb Williams’ flashes of brilliance. Offensive struggles, highlighted by a lack of production will be the biggest problem general manager Ryan Poles will be tasked with fixing in 2025. Coaching changes are inevitable, but Williams must rebuild trust with consistent performances. The team faces significant challenges but retains hope with Williams as a potential franchise centerpiece.

27. New Orleans Saints 5-11 (-2)

The Saints limp into Week 18 with little incentive to risk their injured stars. Rookie Spencer Rattler has had flashes of promise but remains a developmental project. Darren Rizzi has kept the team competitive, but his interim status and the murky future of the coaching staff suggest major changes could be coming. New Orleans faces an offseason of uncertainty as they evaluate their roster and leadership.

28. Jacksonville Jaguars 4-12 (+2)

Despite a dismal record, the Jaguars can take solace in Brian Thomas Jr.’s stellar rookie season. The young receiver provides a foundation for the future, even as the team navigates uncertainty around Trevor Lawrence and Doug Pederson’s leadership. Defensive depth remains a concern, and the Jaguars must continue to build around their young talent. A complete rebuild isn’t necessary, but a targeted approach to roster upgrades is critical.

29. New York Giants 3-13 (+3)

The Giants’ unexpected win over the Colts was bittersweet, potentially jeopardizing their draft position. Rookie Malik Nabers has shown star potential, but the team remains in search of a franchise quarterback. Offseason decisions about coaching and roster construction will shape their path forward. Drafting a top QB remains a pressing priority as New York tries to build a competitive future.

30. Cleveland Browns 3-13 (-2)

Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s struggles against the Dolphins epitomized Cleveland’s woes at quarterback. Deshaun Watson’s return raises questions about his viability as a long-term solution. The Browns are likely to draft a quarterback to push Watson and add depth. Improving the offense and addressing Kevin Stefanski’s future are top offseason priorities for Cleveland.

31. New England Patriots 3-13 (-5)

The Patriots are officially in rebuild mode, with rookie Drake Maye enduring a tough season. Despite moments of promise, New England’s offensive struggles and coaching instability weigh heavily. Jerod Mayo’s future is uncertain, and the Patriots must decide whether to address the offensive line or get a top weapon for Maye in 2025. With the top draft pick in sight, New England has an opportunity to reset around their young talent.

32. Tennessee Titans 3-13 (-1)

The Titans’ dismal season leaves them facing a critical offseason, with quarterback uncertainty at the forefront. Will Levis and Mason Rudolph haven’t inspired confidence, and the team could draft or sign a veteran QB. Tennessee must address gaps across the roster, particularly on defense, to rebound in 2025. Finding stability at quarterback is essential for any hope of success.
