MVP Options

Jamarr Chase ($17,000) after a stellar showing in a loss against the Ravens will be a popular option in many lineups and rightfully so. The bigger dilemma is whether he will be worthy of an MVP position, which will be necessary if he performs up to his ceiling.

Remember that Chase is only pulling 17% of the target share making players like Higgins, Geisicki, Moss, and Iosivas viable pass catchers against a solid Giants defense.

Joe Burrow ($16,000) has passed for 1,370 yards this season, the sixth most in the NFL, and his 12 touchdown passes are the most in the NFL. Burrow’s ceiling is evident, leaving the pivotal game narrative on the Bengals’ defensive side of the ball.

Daniel Jones ($14,000) currently ranks 11th in total QBR on the season (adjusted for defenses faced) , above QBs like Hurts, Mahomes, and Darnold, contrary to the repetitive anti-Daniel Jones narrative floating around Twitter.

Jones is a viable option at MVP considering he is much more mobile than Burrow and the Bengals defense hasn’t been too great thus far.

A rookie Tee Higgins ($13,000) faced a Daniel Jones-led Giants back in 2020 and secured a touchdown pass from backup quarterback, Brandon Allen. Four years later with a healthy Joe Burrow, the odds are far better for Higgins at MVP.

Also note that Patrick Graham was the defensive coordinator for the Giants in 2020, he is currently the defensive coordinator for the Raiders, who are performing better defensively against wide receivers than the Giants at the moment.

Wan’dale Robinson ($11,000) took a bit of a back seat to Slayton last week but he typically is the second receiving option for Jones. With Nabers still out, it would be reasonable to assume Robinson gets a solid amount of targets moving forward. In lineup construction, Robinson has a higher floor than Slayton and a slightly higher completion rate by a few percent.

Salary permitting, Robinson may be a good pay-up option to get a bit different.

Flex Options

Andrei Iosivas ($8,500) and Trenton Irwin ($6,000) together pull in 40% of red zone target share with the edge going to Iosivas who has converted 6 red zone targets into a 66% completion rate and 3 touchdowns.

Irwin lacks the athletic ability and efficiency to be a viable flex option but could be worth considering depending on injury designations at game time.

With Singletary trending towards being out, Tyron Tracy Jr ($9,500) becomes a viable option to pick up the slack. He has been the only running back targeted for receptions in the red zone and the second running back option behind Daniel Jones for the team.

Darius Slayton ($8,500) looks pretty appealing at a mid-tier value price point coming off a good game against the Seahawks. With Nabers out again, look for Slayton to be heavily involved in the passing game and a bit of a chalk play. Jones and Slayton have built chemistry since being drafted together in 2019 which may be worth considering for lineup construction.

Chase Brown ($10,500) and Zack Moss ($10,000) are expected to play despite injuries this week. The Bengals have struggled to develop a solid ground game making both running backs less than appealing as MVP options but worth some thought in the flex positions.

Neither Brown nor Moss has had a rush over 20 yards yet. Maybe this Bengals vs Giants matchup will be different but the Bengals have been 0-4 all-time against the Giants on the road.

Giants Defense ($8,000) and Bengals Defense ($8,000) have an obvious upside but the reality is that the lowest floor on a slate typically comes from defense position flex plays. The good news is Burrow has been sacked 2 or 3 times every game this season except in Week 4 against the Panthers. The bad news is the Giants’ defense needs 5 plus sacks and a few forced fumbles to be worth a flex position.

On the other hand, The Bengals’ defense has been one of the worst in the entire NFL this season, giving up the second-most points at 29 points per game.

The safer option at flex would be kickers Greg Joseph ($9,000) or Evan McPherson ($9,000) with a higher floor than the defenses and a good upside when factoring in field goals over 50 plus yards being worth 5 points. If the Giants’ defense does its job, the Bengals may favor going for a few extra field goal attempts similar to their week 2 matchup against the Chiefs.

Contrarian Options

Mike Geisicki ($7.500) is a great option if you have a higher risk tolerance and need a value option to complete a lineup. He currently is the second receiving option for Burrow with 14% of the target share. Choose Geisicki if you anticipate Chase doesn’t get into a good rhythm on the road.

Rookie tight end, Theo Johnson ($7,000) , has been building a solid rapport with Daniel Jones over the past few weeks which could continue its momentum against Cincinnati. Johnson’s completion rate is only 37%, the lowest on the team, which speaks to his rookie status.

The Bengals defense has given up 3 touchdowns to tight ends, tied for most in the NFL along with the Colts and Rams’ defense.

Considering all the injury designations, there are plenty of value options on this Bengals-Giants slate, making it more imperative to think outside the box. Don’t be alarmed if some of your lineups have a bit of salary left. Landing in second place with a contrarian lineup is better than sharing first place with 100 other people.
