Extra Points is a collection of random thoughts based on the happenings of the NFL. Let me know your thoughts at JLSports24 or on our main social BlitzSM.
Belichick Could Make Ultimate Heel Move
Since their “mutual parting”, Bill Belichick has fully come out of his shell. After 20+ years of being stoic and sometimes flat-out rude, Belichick became somewhat of a media darling. After spending the season making appearances on The Pat McAfee Show, The Manningcast, Inside the NFL, and others, we’ve almost forgotten just how evil he can really be.
Now that the greatest Head Coach of all-time is the man in charge of North Carolina, Tarheel faithful are excited to see the NFL factory Belichick and his staff claim they will create.
Has Belichick gone soft? bailing out of the NFL before the coaching cycle was anywhere close to beginning. Headed off to college to transform boys into men and ready them for the NFL? It doesn’t sound like the mastermind of Spygate to me.
He could be setting us all up for the ultimate heel move. What if Belichick simply secured a job in case the NFL doesn’t come calling? He was only in serious consideration for one opening last season and Raheem Morris was awarded the job over the 8-time Super Bowl Champion.
Belichick and his new General Manager and longtime buddy Michael Lombardi have been hard at work. Recruiting heavily, working the media, and even talking at a UNC basketball game to give Tarheel students and athletes plenty of hope for the future.
Wouldn’t it be the most Belichick thing to pull the plug and head straight for the first NFL job he is offered? He’s never had any problem upsetting players, fans, front offices, or anyone at all.
Now, he’s clearly very connected so I’m sure he has it on good authority that there won’t be many opportunities for him – as there weren’t last year, but would anyone be surprised if he just rolled out of North Carolina and never looked back? I know I wouldn’t. It would be the ultimate heel turn and the most Bill Belichick move of all time.
How to Become Jets General Manager
Mike Tannenbaum has been hired to assist the New York Jets in their search for a new General Manager. Now, to me, this comes as an odd move being that Tannenbaum is a failed G.M. of the Jets who was there from 2006-2012.
There have been rumors that Owner Woody Johnson‘s son, Brick, has even been involved with front-office moves. Apparently, he vetoed a trade for Jerry Jeudy due to his Madden rating being too low. I’ve played a lot of Madden in my day and I’ve also seen Jerry Jeudy play football – regardless of his rating, the Jets could have used Jeudy in 2024.
If Brick Johnson is calling the shots and relies so heavily on Madden for his decisions, why not cut out Tannenbaum, who Daddy already fired, and get creative when hiring your new General Manager?
Hold a Madden Tournament.
Have a tournament of games or an entire online franchise. The tournament or Super Bowl winner must know football to defeat some of the greatest Madden competitors in existence. The winner gets to play Brick Johnson for control of the New York Jets.
With so much trust in the game itself, the Johnson family would HAVE to trust whoever defeats Woody Johnson’s heir. Hand him the keys to the franchise and let him go to work. You could trade for Patrick Mahomes and use Ben Johnson’s playbook to instantly take over the league.
What could go wrong? The Jets are BACK.
Hats Off to Kellen Moore
The Philadelphia Eagles currently lead the NFL in rushing yards per game. Of course, they brought in arguably the best back in the NFL, Saquon Barkley. They also brought in a new Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore.
Just two years ago, Moore was sent packing by the Dallas Cowboys – for not running the ball enough. It made sense at the time in Dallas. A lot of three-and-outs, untimely play-calling, and overall poor game management. Getting Moore out of the picture gave Mike McCarthy better control.
Credit goes to Moore, though, for what he’s accomplished since then. After a year in Los Angeles, the Eagles hired him before the 2024 season. He has shown an elite ability to design and call run plays. If it weren’t for resting players, his star running back would likely break the single-season rushing record this coming weekend.
As a former critic of Kellen Moore, I commend him for rectifying what was once his downfall. He very well could be in contention for some Head Coach positions once again.
