Welcome back to the injury report where we break down all of the latest injuries from the week prior. I will provide an update on the player’s injury and discuss how the injury impacts output long-term in fantasy football. Let’s take a look at all of the injury headlines from this weekend.
Drake London
Wide receiver, Drake London was among the notable injuries for for the Falcons this past Sunday against the Cowboys. He suffered a hip injury late in the first quarter during a touchdown reception and did not return to the game.
According to Raheem Morris, Drake London, and defensive tackle Grady Jarrett are day-to-day. While the hip injury can be frustrating, it is not considered a long-term injury.
It is believed that London is suffering from a hip pointer injury. A hip pointer is essentially a bruise to the muscle and soft tissue of the upper hip area. Full recovery typically involves a few weeks of rest and caution which is good news for London but maybe not the best news for fantasy players.
Darnell Wright
Starting right tackle, Darnell Wright suffered an MCL sprain in the blowout loss to the Cardinals this past Sunday. and underwent an MRI scan on Monday. Even a minor sprain is likely to sideline Wright for several contests.
Pro Football Focus has Wright ranked 26th among 77 qualified tackles so far this season.
The timing of Wright’s injury is a bit troublesome for Chicago, as they were already operating without starting left tackle Braxton Jones. Jones went down with a knee issue in Week 8 and sat out the following game, but is considered week-to-week and may only need to miss one more outing.
If Wright and Jones are unavailable for the Bears’ next matchup, the team will have to reshuffle their offensive line. Backup lineman Kiran Amegadjie is also currently sidelined, so Chicago was compelled to turn to depth options like Larry Borom, who was activated from IR and started, and Curhan, who made his 2023 debut filling in for the injured Wright. If necessary, the Bears could shift guard Matt Pryor, who has prior experience at tackle, into the lineup.
A subpar offensive line will have an obvious impact on the Bears’ offense as a whole with specific concerns over Williams’ performance. The good news is that Caleb Williams has a pretty quick release time. He is currently ranked eighth at 2.64 seconds.
Erick All Jr.
Bengals tight end, Erick All Jr. has shown huge potential in his rookie season with run-game blocking and pass-catching prior to suffering a torn ACL injury against the Raiders. All Jr. injured his right knee last year at Iowa so this newly torn ACL is a “re-injury” making the circumstances much more devastating.
Cincinnati was using a lot more 12-personnel with two tight ends this season with talents like All Jr. available, giving the Bengals another element to their offense for opponents to consider.
Now the Bengals will have to figure out other ways to get things going. They have four other tight ends on the roster with Mike Gesicki, Tanner Hudson, Drew Sample and fellow rookie Tanner McLachlan, a sixth-round pick who has yet to play.
Simi Fehoko
Wide receiver, Simi Fehoko suffered an elbow injury Sunday and could be headed to injured reserve, Harbaugh said Monday. In addition to special teams, Fehoko had six catches for 106 yards this season.
The Chargers ruled him questionable to return late Sunday with roughly five minutes left in regulation.
Looking forward for the Chargers, veteran DJ Chark has just been moved to the active after being on injured reserve since his preseason injury in September. With limited practice, Chark is listed as questionable
Chris Olave
Michael Thomas recently took to Twitter with criticisms against QB Derek Carr in reaction to Chris Olave’s concussion injury this past Sunday. Carr threw a high ball over the middle that was uncatchable forcing Olave to take a huge hit.
Despite being carted off the field and rushed to the hospital, Olave is reportedly fine and currently listed as questionable. There is a five-step process to concussion protocol for players looking to return to the field and it appears Olave is on track to do just that.
Look for Olave to be viable relatively quickly in relation to fantasy rosters with this injury being more hyped due to the recent twitter drama from Thomas.
