Is Jalen Milroe a Dark Horse Heisman Candidate?
In Jalen Milroe’s first season at the helm, he nearly won the Crimson Tide another National Title. Alabama only lost to the eventual National Champions the Michigan Wolverines. While his season was far from perfect at the start, Milroe improved greatly as the season progressed.

Why Jalen Milroe Could Win the Award
The recent Heisman winner Milroe most compares to is NFL MVP Lamar Jackson. During his Heisman season, Jackson threw for over 3,500 yards and 30 TDs, while rushing for another 1,571 yards and 21 more touchdowns on the ground. For being nearly a decade ago, this still stands as one of the most impressive seasons for a college quarterback in history.
Last season, Milroe threw for roughly a thousand less yards (2,597) and accounted for 17 fewer overall (1,068 yards on the ground). He started the season rough, and was nearly replaced, but began to heat up as the season went on. The only loss the Tide received was to the Texas Longhorns, another playoff team.
If Milroe looks to take home the Heisman Trophy, he will likely have to come close to Jackson’s historic season. If he can do this while attaining the same success as before, there’s no reason why the Alabama Quarterback won’t be bringing home hardware in December.
But this is easier said then done.
Roadblocks Ahead
Milroe won’t be able to take the same time as before to become an asset. The Tide have an early test against Wisconsin, and with Oklahoma and Texas joining the SEC, it won’t get any easier. But in spite of this, Milroe should be seen as the Dark Horse to win the Heisman. He’s not at the top of traders books at the moment and most see him as a QB who could be a liability if history repeats itself. But will a skill set such as his, there’s no reason he can’t be remembered as another Heisman winning Alabama Quarterback.
