Last night we had our second straight week of MNF doubleheaders. In a shootout, the Lions (3-1) won 42-29 over the Seahawks (3-1) with both defenses putting up little resistance throughout the game. There were over 700 yards of passing in this game and 10 touchdowns scored between both teams.
In the earlier game of the doubleheader, we saw the Titans (1-3) dismantle the Dolphins 31-12 on the road. The storylines in this one revolved around the Dolphins offense continuing to struggle without Tua Tagovailoa. On the other side of things, the injury to Will Levis in this one allowed Mason Rudolph to step in with 2 touchdown passes in relief. There could be a QB controversy brewing in Tennessee.

The Lions are a Top 3 team in the NFL
This is not an overreaction at all, the Lions have inserted themselves into the top 3 teams in football. Their offense has as much talent as any other team on the offensive side of the ball. Jared Goff struggled through the first three weeks of the season and played a perfect game last night. I will talk about their defense in another section but that is the only concern for them going forward. The NFC North is going to be a dog fight between all four teams in that division and I would not be surprised to see the Lions come out on top.

The Seahawks are a Contender
Going into last night’s game many considered the Seahawks 3-0 record inflated due to the competition they were playing. One side of the ball proved that they will be a legit contender, their offense. The passing game looks impressive with Geno Smith playing well while having three good targets in DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. In the backfield, Kenneth Walker III is a stud with Zach Charbonnet as his back up. Their defense needs to get healthy, but they showed that their offense is legit in 2024.

Kenneth Walker III is a top 5 RB in the NFL
Walker returned from injury on Monday Night and was willing the Seahawks back into the game behind his impressive playmaking. Walker finished with 116 total yards and 3 touchdowns in the loss making some incredible highlights in the process. He has flashed signs in his two games this season that suggest he could be one of the league’s best running backs when on the field. The problem with Walker is that he always seems to have nagging injuries that keep him off the field.

The Lions defense has not improved from last season
On the season the Lions currently rank 22nd in total defense, 30th against the pass, and 4th against the run while allowing an average of 20.5 points per game. Their run defense from last year is the biggest improvement and it looks like they have cleaned that area up. The pass defense is a different story as we have seen them struggle to match up with talented wide receiver cores like the Bucs and Seahawks. It is still early in the season and this unit could get better as the season goes on based on continuity. Their defense will be the X-factor in a super bowl run.

Mike McDaniel is on the hot seat
It has been dreadful what we have seen from the Dolphins this season post-Tua Tagovailoa injury. The combination of Skylar Thompson and Snoop Huntley struggled to get going as they looked overwhelmed by McDaniel’s system. We saw what Matt LaFleur did with Malik Willis at QB and the success the Packers had. If McDaniel is a great coach, he should be able to adapt his scheme to the player which did not happen with either guy. I think him being on the hot seat is an overreaction but him not being an offensive genius is a valid take.

Will Levis should be benched
Now this one is interesting and is starting to heat up after the Titans win with Mason Rudolph at QB. Head coach Brian Callahan quickly announced that Levis would start in week 5 despite Rudolph’s solid performance in relief. Levis on the season has been plagued with inconsistency making a few good plays and then following it up with a meme-worthy play. I think you have to leave him in there longer to determine if he can be the franchise guy in Tennessee, you pull him now there are still some unanswered questions.
