A Little Bit of Hokie and a Whole Lot of Hope
We see it all too often in the world of sports. From a half-court shot to a Hail Mary with 0:01 on the clock, the sports world is never spared of last-minute heroics. But in the case of Virginia Tech’s upset Biden against #7 Miami (FL), we were robbed of an epic finish.
Taking the lead with around 5 minutes left in the 2nd Quarter, the Hokies held on until 1:57 left in the fourth. If not for the Heisman-moment shovel pass by Cam Ward, Miami wouldn’t have even had a shot at this game.
Fast forward to Virginia Tech. They’ve driven it down the field, going midway into Miami territory. Quarterback Kyron Drones steps back into the pocket. He surveys for any drop-offs before throwing a bomb into the end zone.
A 50/50 ball. The stadium holds it’s breath.
A VIRGINIA TECH PLAYER COMES DOWN WITH IT. TECH HAS DONE IT, THEY’VE UPSET A TOP-10 TEAM ON THE ROAD FOR ONLY THE FOURTH TIME IN SCHOOL HISTORY.
The refs, before the extra point can be kicked, review the play. There seems to be no chance to overturn the call, as in College Football, there must be indisputable evidence to overturn the call on the field.
After what felt like a decade, the referee finally takes the field.
It was incomplete.
An entire team was robbed of their win. Of their right to continue to fight in the ACC. Their was no indisputable evidence, yet here we are. Miami remains undefeated. Nevertheless, what a finish.
“THEY’RE EATING THE DAWGS!”
In a thrilling SEC showdown in Tuscaloosa, Alabama defeated Georgia 41-34. Alabama jumped out to a dominant 28-7 lead in the first half, powered by quarterback Jalen Milroe, who accounted for four total touchdowns, including 117 rushing yards.
Georgia mounted a comeback, scoring 19 points in the fourth quarter and briefly taking a 34-33 lead after a 67-yard touchdown pass from Carson Beck. However, Alabama quickly responded with a 75-yard touchdown pass from Milroe to Ryan Williams. Georgia then earned its way back down the field, only for Beck to throw a game-sealing interception.
Georgia’s Carson Beck threw for 439 yards and three touchdowns, but the Bulldogs were hampered by turnovers, committing four compared to Alabama’s one. Despite the loss, Georgia out-gained Alabama in total yards (519 to 547).
