Nebraska Loses a Close Game 31-24 Part 17
Oh Big Red, when will you learn that the 20th Century is over? The fact of the matter is, no kid outside of the ones in a Stephen King book grow up wanting to be a Cornhusker, at least not anymore. It’s a sad reality that can’t be seen in Nebraska, despite flat land for miles around.
And oh yeah, the Big Ten West is alive and well.
In a matchup where Nebraska was nearly favored by double digits, Illinois came in and shocked 87,000 fans. Perhaps the most astounding part of this matchup wasn’t the 500+ combined passing yards, but the fact that both teams came into this game ranked, for quite possibly the first time ever.
The Cornhuskers took a 17-10 lead into halftime, in what was already the highest scoring Big Ten West game in history. But, as luck would have it, we were graced with another period of football after Illinois opted for a comeback.
In his 4th TD pass of the game, Luke Altmyer tossed one four yards from the end zone to put the Illini up in overtime. Nebraska would then go on to do Nebraska things and lose a close game, being unable to reach the end zone for a final time.
As for Illinois, they look to continue their undefeated season against Top-10 Penn State next week.
Kansas State or BYU? I’ll Take the Latter (Day)
Speaking of undefeated teams, BYU improved to 4-0 after demolishing KSU at home. I guarantee you the Wildcats still wish they had Will Howard.
KSU jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but it was all Cougars from there. A college boys dream, just not on this particular night.
The Kansas State passing game struggled to get anything going, accounting for 2 INTs and zero touchdowns the entire night. There was some success on the ground however, with starter DJ Giddens nearly eclipsing 100 yards.
The Wildcats actually out-gained the Cougs by nearly 50% and had 3 more first downs, but failed to do what matters and that is putting points on the board, with a final score of 38-9.
Michigan Saves Its Season
‘Twas USCs first game in the Big Ten, while all through the Big House, not a Quarterback could hear, not even a Moss. The Banners were hung, National Champions without a care, but with hope that this season wouldn’t be over in Septembe(a)r.
Alex Orji looked lost, the defense not as bad, as Kalel Mullings danced in the end zone, the only savior to be had.
If I told you a team beat a ranked team and only had 33 passing yards, you’d probably think it was the early 1900’s. But no, Michigan has just become a better version of Iowa.
The Wolverines saved their season, defeating USC on a last-minute touchdown to all but end the game. Kalel Mullings had a day, rushing for nearly 160 yards and getting in twice for two TDs.
