Week 2 – College Football AP Rankings

Week 2 of the College Football season saw several beatdowns and upsets of the AP Top 25 teams. Despite this, Georgia held onto the #1 spot and more in this weeks edition.

#1 Georgia Bulldogs

The Bulldogs took care of business in a 48-3 beatdown of FCS Tennessee Tech. Quarterback Carson Beck added to his Heisman hype with 5 touchdowns and 242 yards total. It’s a road game at Kentucky next week for the Dawgs

#2 Texas Longhorns

Sadly enough for my Michigan Wolverines, Texas went into Ann Arbor and dominated in every way. It was a game that was never competitive in the slightest, as the Longhorns went into halftime with a 24-3 lead. Next week Texas takes on UTSA in a 7:00 PM EST kickoff.

#3 Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State easily took care of business against the Broncos, winning in blowout fashion. The Buckeyes are off in Week 3.

#4 Alabama Crimson Tide

Although ‘Bama took care of business, the final score is a bit deceiving. USF was competitive well into the fourth quarter, much like last year.

#5 Ole Miss Rebels

The Rebels didn’t have much struggle taking care of MTSU winning 52-3. They’ll get their first “test” against Wake Forest next game.

#6 Mizzou

The fifth SEC team to be ranked so far, Missouri, like all it’s counterparts, demolished the competition. This makes two straight shut-outs for the Tigers.

#7 Tennessee Vols

Oh look, another SEC team. While my Big Ten heart tells me media bias, my college football brain tells me media bias. Oh well, onto powerhouse Kent State next week for the Vols.

#8 Penn State Nittany Lions

In what was nearly the biggest upset since (checks notes) Notre Dame – NIU, the Nittany lions pulled one out late against Bowling Green. Kent State is next (poor Golden Flashes) after a bi-week.

#9 Oregon Ducks

In what started as a National Championship or bust season for the Ducks, they might first want to focus on making a bowl game. First struggles against Idaho and now against Boise State should have fans worried for rivalry week.

#10 Miami Hurricanes

Oh boy oh boy does Cam Ward look like the Heisman winner in September. But September Heismans aren’t what matters. The ‘Canes might be back but they first must take care of business in a below-average ACC.

#11 USC Trojans

No Caleb Williams? No problem. Miller Moss has filled into the #1 Draft picks shoes and more. While they haven’t quite reached their decade high in the AP Rankings, the Trojan’s continue to climb.

#12 Utah Utes

It feels like the Utes have been extremely talented this decade, only to come up short. In a Big 12 that no longer features Texas and Oklahoma, this might finally be the year Utah figures it out.

#13 Oklahoma State Cowboys

So far it’s too early to tell how good the Cowboys are. They beat SDST by 24, but took Arkansas to 2 OT the following week. A mid-year collision course with Utah looms large.

#14 Kansas State Wildcats

Without Will Howard, the passing game has struggled to find substance. We’ll see what KSU is really made of with a Top 25 matchup against Arizona next game.

#15 Oklahoma Sooners

I personally have a deep hate ingrained into my heart for the Sooners. Long story short, TillDaddy had pastor in teenage years, TillDaddy’s pastor was Oklahoma and Michigan fan. The Wolverines are superior in every way shape and form and should never share fandom therefore Oklahoma should lose every game. Luckily for me, the Sooners looked lackluster against Houston.

Bummer Sooner.

#16 LSU Tigers

After an early blowout loss to #1 Georgia, the Tigers bounced back against poor FCS Nicholls. I would never bet against a LSU team, especially one with such a talented QB. A road test against South Carolina is next week.

#17 Michigan Wolverines

My Wolverines are bad. And not like down bad how the kids are saying these days. More like I locked myself in my room and had the urge to stuff my face full of sweets. Michigan plays at home against Arkansas State next in a game to decide my sanity.

#18 Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Losses to MAC schools two years in a row. I’ve got nothing more to say.

#19 Louisville Cardinals

The Cardinals have had two blowouts to start the year, alas against inferior competition. As ACC play heats up, we’ll get a better feel as to how Louisville will compete.

#20 Arizona Wildcats

I have a feeling Arizona is in for a ride awakening at some point, possibly next against Kansas State. The Wildcats have struggled to create space against lesser opponents thus far, a not-so-good sign for the future.

#21 Iowa State Cyclones

The Cyclones won the battle for “Most Boring State in the Union” this week against Iowa. Up next is a bi-week and after Arkansas State.

#22 Clemson Tigers

Much like most of the teams ranked this week, the Tigers have had two blowouts to start the year. Unlike most of the other teams, they’ve been on the receiving end of one. Dabo Swinney’s days are limited.

#23 Nebraska Cornhuskers

Nothing makes me happier than to see Colorado lose a football game. It’s scary to think that Big Red might finally be back, but if the Buffs are the sacrifice, I have no problem.

#24 Boston College Eagles

As we continue our ACC rankings… Wait… Boston College is ranked? What’s next, Northern Illinois?

Oh wait.

#25 Northern Illinois America’s Team

It brings tears to my eyes to write this. My least favorite team not in the Big Ten was upset on a last second field goal. The biggest upset since, well, let’s not go there. Let’s just celebrate America’s team for what they’ve done. They’ve united the country, they’ve brought balance to the universe.

Thank you, Huskies.
