Just when it seemed like certain teams were starting to emerge ahead of the rest of the pack and that it might be a slower slate this past weekend, Vanderbilt and Arkansas said not so fast knocking off Alabama and Tennessee. The Big Ten also was not immune to upsets either with Michigan and USC both suffering their second loss getting upset on the road by Washington and Minnesota.
This weekend has been circled on the calendar for many months now with lots of highly ranked teams playing each other like Ohio State at Oregon, Texas vs. Oklahoma, and Ole Miss at LSU. Let’s get into the full College Football Top 25 rankings for Week 7.
1. Texas Longhorns
The Longhorns were on bye this past weekend before the Red River Rivalry vs. Oklahoma this upcoming Saturday at 3:30 Eastern.
2. Ohio State Buckeyes
The Buckeyes won 35-7 over Iowa behind 4 passing touchdowns from Will Howard, three of which connecting with Emeka Embuka. Ohio State faces their toughest challenge of the year to date heading to Oregon in a top 5 matchup.
3. Oregon Ducks
Jordan James ran for 166 yards and a touchdown in the Ducks 31-10 over Michigan State on Friday. Oregon hosts Ohio State Saturday Night.
4. Penn State Nittany Lions
Penn State defeated UCLA 27-11 behind Drew Allar throwing for 237 yards and a touchdown, and rushing for another. The Nittany Lions head west Saturday, taking on USC.
5. Alabama Crimson Tide
The Crimson Tide followed up their massive victory over Georgia by laying an egg and losing 40-35 to Vanderbilt. They look to bounce back at home against South Carolina.
6. Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia bounced back from their loss to Alabama with a 31-14 win over Auburn behind 240 yards passing and 2 touchdowns by Carson Beck. The Bulldogs host Mississippi State this weekend before facing off with Texas the following weekend.
7. Miami Hurricanes
The Hurricanes scored 21 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to come back and beat Cal 39-39, giving Miami their second straight close and slightly controversial win behind Cam Ward passing for 437 yards and 2 touchdowns, and adding another TD on the ground.
8. Ole Miss Rebels
Henry Parrish Jr had 81 yards rushing and a touchdown to help Ole Miss handle South Carolina 27-3 and bounce back from their first loss against Kentucky the previous week. The Rebels head to Baton Rouge to take on LSU Saturday Night.
9. LSU Tigers
The Tigers were on bye this past week before hosting Ole Miss in what is likely a must win for both teams to keep their playoff hopes alive.
10. Clemson Tigers
Clemson went on the road and handled Florida State 29-13 with Phil Mafa running for 154 yards and Cade Klubnik throwing for 235 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Tigers head to Wake Forest on Saturday.
11. Tennessee Volunteers
The Volunteers fell victim to a trap game giving up 10 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to fall 19-14 on the road versus Arkansas. Tennessee looks to bounce back against Florida this week before hosting Alabama the following week.
12. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
The Irish had won 3 straight after their massive upset loss earlier in the year against NIU, and were on bye this past weekend before rival Stanford comes to town Saturday.
13. Iowa State Cyclones
Iowa State knocked off Baylor 43-21 on Saturday with Rocco Becht passing for 277 yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception, while Jalon Jackson added 107 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns. The Cyclones head to Morgantown to take on West Virginia this weekend.
14. Oklahoma Sooners
The Sooners were on bye last weekend before facing their biggest rivals and the top team in the country, Texas on Saturday.
15. Texas A&M Aggies
The Aggies had the biggest win of any team in the rankings this past weekend, crushing Missouri at home 41-10. Le’Veon Moss lead the way for A&M with 138 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns.
16. BYU Cougars
After having this past weekend off, BYU welcomes Arizona to town in a do or die game for the Wildcats if they want to have any hope to still compete for a Big 12 title.
17. Utah Utes
Utah was on bye last weekend following their first loss at home to Arizona the week before. They head to the desert to face the other Arizona school, Arizona State on Friday night.
18. Missouri Tigers
Missouri was another SEC team to get handed their first loss on Saturday, getting dominated by Texas A&M on the road 41-10. The Tigers were doubled up on total yards by the Aggies with A&M out gaining them 512 total yards to 254 for Missouri. They look to bounce back with an oddly scheduled game on the road versus UMass this weekend.
19. Kansas State Wildcats
Kansas State was on bye this past weekend before heading to Boulder Saturday night in a battle of teams undefeated in Big 12 play against Colorado.
20. Boise State Broncos
Ashton Jeanty added to his Heisman case rushing for 186 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Broncos 62-30 win over Utah State. Boise State heads to the island to take on Hawaii Saturday night.
21. Indiana Hoosiers
Indiana finds themselves at 6-0 and bowl eligible for the first time since 2020 after their 41-24 win over Northwestern. The Hoosiers were lead by Kurtis Rourke throwing for 380 yards and 3 touchdowns.
22. Illinois Fighting Illini
Illinois hosts Purdue this weekend after being off last Saturday.
23. Pitt Panthers
Pitt finds themselves back in the rankings for the first time since 2022 after winning 34-24 on the road versus North Carolina to improve to 5-0. Eli Holstein threw for 381 yards with 3 touchdowns and an interception on top of rushing for 76 yards and a touchdown. the Panthers host Cal on saturday.
24. SMU Mustangs
SMU joins the rankings after knocking off previously ranked Louisville 34-27. Kevin Jennings lead the way for the Mustangs with 113 yards and a touchdown.
25. Navy Midshipmen
Navy improved to 5-0 with a win over another service academy Air Force 34-7 on Saturday. Blake Horvath lead the Midshipmen with 115 yards rushings, 2 rushing touchdowns, and 134 yards passing.
