Week 7 Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Start / Sit Advice

Sunday is knocking on the door so I have a couple of final takes on Wide Receiver selections for you to start or sit on your Fantasy Football Team. A couple of these might seem pretty obvious, but I want to break down the ones that really stood out to me.

BALTIMORE RAVENS v. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS WIDE RECEIVERS

Any and all pass catchers for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers should be high on your list for this weekend. While Baltimore has risen to the top of the league overall, their passing defense is abysmal. They are giving up:

  • 3rd most passing yards
  • 5th most passing touchdowns
  • 5th most completions (meaning the receiving corps gets to eat)

At this point, Baker Mayfield is a top 5, maybe even top 3 Quarterback, which adds to the PPR potential of Chris Godwin, Mike Evans, and even Tight End Cade Otton.

  • Godwin is already WR1 in PPR so this weekend will be big.
  • Evans’ status is currently questionable, so keep a close eye on him… you don’t want to miss getting him into your lineup.
  • Otton has been delivering consistent value over the last 4 weeks, and this week should be another solid result for the 3-year man out of Washington.

MIAMI DOLPHINS v. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS WIDE RECEIVERS

The Indianapolis Colts receivers should all lose a spot in your line-up for this week. This means drop them from WR1 to WR2, or WR2 to WR3… or depending on who you have, maybe even go down to Flex or the bench. The reason here is that the Miami passing defense is giving up the:

  • Fewest Passing Touchdowns per game
  • 2nd fewest Completions per game
  • 3rd fewest Receiving Yards per game

Alec Pierce, the Colts’ top-scoring receiver, with the most yards-per-catch, loses tons of value in this matchup. He’s 4th in the lineup for targets, so the low completion rate and yardage that the Miami defense affords means he goes to the bench.

This leaves Michael Pittman Jr. and Josh Downs. They are playable based on target volume, but I would look for other receivers on your roster to put into the WR1 & WR2 spots. While Pittman is targeted slightly more than Downs, he has a much lower catch rate, which puts the two of them on an even playing field for this week’s lineup.

WASHINGTON COMMANDERS v. CAROLINA PANTHERS WIDE RECEIVERS

These teams have easily two of the worst passing defenses in the league. They are in the bottom third for Passing Yards gained against them, but more importantly, they’ve given up the 2nd and 3rd most passing touchdowns per game in the league. Moreover, this match-up has the highest over-under points assigned this week at 51.5, meaning Vegas is looking forward to a high-scoring game. For Carolina, if you have:

  • Diontae Johnson, consider him for WR1
  • Xavier Legette, get him in at minimally WR3
  • Chubba Hubbard, leverage him for RB1 since he’s the Panthers 3rd option in terms of targets

For Washington, if you have:

  • Terry McLaurin, you’re in good shape with him at WR1
  • Zack Ertz at Tight End, he’ll bring catch points along with his best chance to get a touchdown
  • Olamide Zaccheaus or Noah Brown, you have a decent option for the Flex spot
  • Austin Ekeler, he’s a viable option for RB2 or Flex since he is such a versatile back with a 94% catch rate

CONCLUSION

Defensive matchups against the pass are just as important to your fantasy Wide Receiver line-up as the quality of the receivers themselves… says me.
